Veiled

by fabian cortez

Atmosphere crackles

& you’re there

I sense such energy

Of heat; of a passion

Sizzling underneath

A stoic exterior

Of the mundane

-

I brush my hand against

Your back, so delicately

As to enhance a greeting,

Without exacting purpose

To this throng,

A garbled banter

Of witless verbiage

Is abundant,

-

But not here

With you & I, your eyes

Belie a converse

Of work, to dance

In tune with lust, so

Hidden yet still in plain

Sight

-

Lay asunder all trappings

Of your cage, what bounty may

Be forthcoming, from a tigress’s

Life yet dazed,

Would that you tear the

Shackles to enhance the

Rage of euphoria,

Before an end of days

-

Should I entice an exit to your

Passion’s fervour or retreat,

To let another take a chance,

I brush your hand with

Mine to indicate

My move to the

Moonlit garden

-

Your bluest eyes meet

Mine, retreat a moment

Then return a gaze,

I’ve already taken steps

Toward the waiting breeze,

My cigarettes in hand

-

I light one as I feel you coming

Through the kitchen

I turn to look as the door

Opens

-

You take retreat, as she steps

Out on slabs of concrete beside

Me, ready lit, we talk of the days to

Christmas & the coming year

Smalltalk of little

Consequence

-

I sense your guard return

Its bolt, securely in place,

It would not be today

Or any other

For tonight I

Leave & so give up

The chase
