Shadowheld

Coming up to center stage after dancing in the rain

Her voice is made of heaven but her songs are all of pain.

She sings til she’s bleeding in front of the crowd

And in the silence of an empty room the applause is just so loud.

-

Staring at the moon in the middle of the day

He’s waiting for a miracle that won’t come his way

He looks at the sky with those eyes full of pain

And the light is so bright through the clouds and the rain.

-

She laughs with her friends as if they weren’t so remote.

He writes all his letters like a suicide note

They try to get out when they find they can’t win

They wear their sorrow like the scars on their skin.

-

Dancing in the darkness has never looked so bright

To the girl in the shadows with eyes made of light.

She wants to be loved and cared for by all

But she can’t take a step; she’s so scared of the fall.

-

Answering the questions with doubts and lies

He’s the boy who’s adored with hate in his eyes.

He wants to be seen as a man who is whole.

But he can’t break the magic; so scared of a soul.

-

She talks about darkness when she’s filled with such light

He breaks all the rules but he can’t start a fight.

They try to get out when they find they can’t win

They wear their sorrow like the scars on their skin.

-

Overdosing on fantasies, blood rushing to her head

She needs a morning fix of it or she can’t get out of bed.

Dreaming of things untrue; my prince will come some day

She knows she’s fooling herself; reality is overrated anyway.

-

Dying every morning; each day brings only more

Somehow he always finds himself bleeding on the floor.

He’s got more bruises than he can know, each one hurting hard

And there’s nothing he do to make it stop; no secret way to guard.

-

They all look alike in their search to be unique

They’re the ones we all know; their lines we all speak.

They try to get out when they find they can’t win

They wear their sorrow like the scars on their skin.
