Golden

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a leaf fall.
It’s been awhile since I’ve even tried to look.
But I’m walking through summer’s end.
And a golden, star-crossed leaf
Flutters with the wind.
Heartbreaking minutes sail by,
I think it’ll never hit the ground.
Still, it sinks so delicately,
Landing upon a pile
Of sun bleached leaves.

Together they lie,
Still afresh in death.
Lazily gliding amongst each other,
Like sun kissed lovers.

Winter falls,
And the last breath of autumn blackens.
The golden hues are lost.
The delicate leaves stiff with frost.
The once blanketed floor,
Lies almost desolate in it’s bareness.

We can only wait for Spring.
