Lost Love

Like a petal floating down gently upon the soft-spoken wind, her graceful beauty quietly entered the atmosphere. Her elegant figure silently made its way across the room to stand by her lordship's side, every chance I got, I snuck glances at her. Technically, our love was forbidden by all the laws governing our kingdom. While Alexis is a princess by blood, I Eugene, am head of her royal guard. Our social classes are far too different for us to ever be together before the eyes of society here in our homeland Ezalna.

She has the pale white skin of a queen and deep tumbling raven curls down her back. In our kingdom, her beauty is unmatched by anyone, she is truly blessed by the goddesses. Her heart holds no malice, which makes her easily liked by the subjects of the land. My build was average, I was a bit taller than most of the men in the guard with me. My skin is bronzed because of the long hours I spend outside in the sunlight training and scouting the grounds.

The bond that formed between us started out as merely formal, as it should have remained so. Since I was head of milady's royal guard, we saw each other often. It began with small requests from her, such as fetching a glass of water and standing closer for protection when she felt uneasy at tourneys or in large crowds. Soon after though, we had begun to grow closer, Alexis was more open with me and I got to know who she truly is. We went on rides along the countryside, Alexis adored her roan blue horse that she had named Cloud on her 15th birthday, and I as her companion and security.

Quickly following those times, we became friends and confided in each other. We talked for hours without end in her bedroom past hours, now that may seem foolish, but we learned much from one another. Some days we would ride through the streets of the nearby towns and I would show her the true life that everyday people lived and the hardships endured. By seeing that, it just made her appreciation for the strength of her subjects even stronger. I soon fell prisoner to her charm, I knew I was in over my head but I didn't care. Dare I say I fell in love? Yes, without a doubt.

“Milady?” a servant girl swept down into a deep curtsy

“Can I help you Melissa?” the woman replied

“His lordship asks for you in his study right now.” she said scuttling away. Sighing the young lady gently rose from the window seat, leaving her book on the bench, she made her way towards the West end of the castle. “Father what is the meaning of...”

“Alexis, how kind of you to join us, we were just talking about you.” the king abruptly cut his daughter off. “Now, I'd like you to meet Prince Neal. Neal, this is my daughter Princess Alexis.” As the prince gently laid a kiss on Alexis' hand she smiled politely and nodded.

“It's a pleasure to meet you” she curtsied while sending a glare in her father's direction.

“Alexis I have some wonderful news!” the king exclaimed

“Oh?” she questioned

“Yes daughter, you are betrothed to Prince Neal of the Southern kingdom Talo.” King Ranom rambled happily unaware to the face of disbelief that Alexis was giving him.

“Unhhh” she mumbled as she fainted to the floor.
