Two-Faced

Prologue

He’s dead? Wha-what? You’re sure?” Audrey asked.

Am I sure? Audrey, he’s as pale as New York snow and he’s sitting in a morgue… yeah, I’m sure,” Miguel gave a sardonic snort.

Those words ring clearly in Audrey’s head, even to this day. All she did, or felt she could do, after that was cry. She thought it was her fault he was dead. It wasn’t, honestly, but she wouldn’t hear of anything like that…

It was a bitterly cold day in October when Audrey met the person who would change her life forever. They had both been working at the same public relations firm in New York for a month. It was competitive, to say the least. Then her boss suddenly decided she wanted everyone to be friends (between you and me, it was probably because she finally got laid), so she began giving out “group” assignments. She put all the employees’ names into a bowl one day as a sort of random drawing. That’s how she assigned the partners. Then she would go down the list and assign a project. Drea, Audrey’s boss, assigned her to work with a woman named Autumn Landers. Their assignment was to do PR for a rock band named Skittle Addiction. Neither had ever heard of them and, in their opinion, they had a stupid name. Little did Audrey know that this job would become about a lot more than a stupid name.
