Moment One

He surfaces, lungs burning, legs thrashing.

She's there, holding him, powerful tail keeping them afloat.

"Why're you doing this?" he whispers painfully.

Green eyes meet his. "If I knew I wouldn't be doing it."

And he knows she'll keep him alive, somehow.

Moment Two

The ocean was rougher than normal, he was here anyways. After all, he'd promised.

"Hey."

She gives a shy smile. "Hi."

"How're you?"

"Alive. You?"

"I'm great. Life's great. Got a new girlfriend."

"Oh." Lightning cracks, and she disappears in a shower of silver scales and water.

Moment Three

"How's your girlfriend?"

"Loving life."

"How's your father?"

"Doing great."

"How's your mother?"

"Having fun."

"How's your brother?"

"Excelling constantly."

"How's your pet?"

"OK."

"How's your friends?"

"Curious and happy."

"And how are you?"

"Alive."

Moment Four

"I can't come anymore."

He feels shock set in. "W-why not?!"

"Father found out…and…" She looks depressed. "I'm not allowed to talk to you."

"But, you're the best thing in my life!"

"It doesn't matter."

"We'll find a way."

"No, we won't."

"We will."

"We can't, because it never would've lasted anyways."

Moment Five

Dark eyes skan the choppy water. Nothing. No flash of silver. No glimpse of emerald. She's gone, probably forever.

There's a quiet sigh from behind him.

"Sorry," he says, not meaning it.

The blond girl rolls her eyes.

"Are we done now?"

"Yeah. We're done." But in his heart he wishes it wasn't.

Moment Six

Years pass, he stills watches every day. His wife complains, says he's a slacker, a loser. He asks why she married him then. She never replies.

Todays different though.

"Would you go get a job, you slacking moron?"

"If I'm such a slacker why'd you marry me?"

"Because I loved you! Because I knew that with that fish girl gone you'd turn to me! Because I wanted what she'd always had, your heart!"

Moment Seven

They met on the beach, a place were earth met water and both were equal. She touched his hair, now silver like her own.

There were no words, because there were no sounds that could cross the chasm between them.

Finally she blinked, the spell was broken, and they went back to their normal lives.

Moment Eight

"How's your wife?"

"Depressed."

"How's your father?"

"Long dead."

"How's your mother?"

"Sick with cancer."

"How's your brother?"

"Living in the streets."

"How's your pet?"

"OK, lucky fool."

"How's your friends?"

"High, or drunk."

"How are you?"

"Still alive, but dying."

Moment Nine

She surfaces, tears streaming, arms burning.

His weight drags her down.

She's too old for this, centuries have gone.

But this boy looks like him.

Finally he hacks.

"How are you?"

He smiles, and she can't help smiling back.

"Alive, thank you."

Wheee! I'm on a role of creepy and weird things! Love this one. If you haven't guessed, it's about a mermaid who saves a boy, and they become friends until her father finds out. Eventually she grows up and is no longer considered under her fathers rule, so she visits the boy, who's now old. The boy was in love with her, and eventually became bitter because of it. Centuries later in the present time she saves another boy. The rest of the story is up to you.

It's my first attempt at flash fiction, and it's actually a string of them put together. Please reveiw and tell me how I did.

Ja Ne,

Starlite Dragin
