Darling? Darling, wake up!
The little blue man
Lifted up her veil
To find dying magic there
‘A quaint, decaying haven there!’
(The frightened words he’d spurt)
---
He then poked into her eye
And saw blank wells staring back
Stray confusion abound
‘No soul to be found!’
(His crystal voice did crack)
---
Next came the nesting heart
Whose red forestry ran wild
Though as the little man did cajole
‘Can’t summon the vines to fill the hole!’
(Louder then, he groused like a child)
-----
And upon a second visit and a second try
Situations were more grave
Not one thump from the thick brook
Surely stolen by a crook!
---
But before the little man could finish
His claims, I told him to save
I confessed to being the thief
And oh, I showed him my grief!
---
My love, I said, would not wake
Despite my every wail and scream
So in perverse determination I gave my last best
And thrust a mighty stake through her low-heaving chest!
