Afterglow

In the afterglow

of a dream and a wish

of a fleeting memory no more,

I bask in the light

and what is left and remains

of the hopes of times before.

Though nothing left truly

is here, but the memories

strong inside,

I feel the press and the pull

of my thoughts

and the feelings I try to hide.

Emotions threaten to

over take me and

pull me across the Styx.

I’m a wreck of the past

and confusion and truths

my mind of twisted tricks.

But still I lie in

the afterglow of a

life that has passed me by,

I’ve learned now

not to question it

and not to query why.
