Rabbit Hole

There are days I’ve had coming at me
When everything just seems so crazy
I feel I’m running a race against myself
I try to grab each moment that I can
Just to watch it slip right from my hand

Hey Alice! – Can you tell me why
Everything’s going wrong despite what I try
That pocket watch won’t quit ticking
It seems like every stinking day
I’m following signs pointing the wrong way

Everybody’s just too hard to please
I realize during the times like these
When nothing makes sense no more
And it doesn’t matter what’s been said
I’ve got a rabbit hole inside my head

Like a glass breaking under my feet
And tumbling down a slope far too steep
I find I’m falling upside down
They say laughter is good for your health
So I’m just going to wander and enjoy myself

Listen to the songs the flowers sing
And play with the deck I didn’t bring
But before I return to that other-world
Maybe someone’ll play some chess with me
And I can stop for a cup of tea

Then when life starts to seem all the same
And I feel like challenging the queen to a game
- Cause what is life, but a dream? -
I’ll ignore the warnings my cats said
And dive into that rabbit hole in my head
