My lips still linger
On when you kissed me goodbye
Doing laundry my blouse
Still remembers your scent
And shares the final perfume.
I was so tired of all the in betweens
I could have laid there with you
Tangled limbs. Warm breath. Gentle kisses
And slept for eternity
You held my hand,
Head between your shoulders.
Why couldn’t time freeze there?
‘Don’t cry,” you whispered.
I really did try.
We forgot the finality for a time.
Laughing through sloppy kisses at
The sound of your lips and my tongue
And the tickling of my fingers up your thigh
Eventually we stood there pretending
This wasn’t the last time in these arms
You kissed my forehead
And lifted my salty lips to yours
Our eyes met.
“Goodbye.”
