Slowly waking, still alone in twilight
Outside is life through silence.
Rooster, cricket, occasional dog
Occasional hum from breathing.
A moment of darkness
Then pale flourescent light.
Staring up at the dirty white ceiling
Then at equally dirty white walls.
Dog, cricket, occasional snore.
The rooster perhaps silenced by sleep.
Warm against softness
Yet cold and alone
Body contorted against a makeshift lover
Holding it close as I'd hold you close
Cricket, dog, occasional sigh.
The snores only get louder.
Rising before the sun, sleep begone
A long missed companion.
Up before the night releases its hold.
Just you wait-
I'll see you in the morning.
