New Year’s Resolutions

With a flash and a bang
There’s a great, colossal roar
A gasp of surprise
And the old is no more

Some realize with shock
That the past is now gone
The future has come
In a resounding carillon

The stars shine brighter
In a sky of black silk
Only to dim in the distance
As brighter lights spill like milk

The shouts grow louder
People’s delight unfold
Welcome to the new,
Farewell to the old!

Let us seal the past
With a kiss and a promise
We’ll stand tall, all together!
And live with newfound persistence!

We’ll shed final tears,
Watch red run through grime,
Drop the blades, hear them clang,
Promise that this is the last time

As intoxicated ones slumber
It’s the end of nightmares relived,
The final strikes fall
And we promise to forgive

We remember past thoughts
Past actions and past words
We remember complaints
And the things that we’ve heard

Make a promise for more caution
For a much less sharp tongue
To not make the same mistakes
That cannot be undone

Promise to love those around us
Try to understand father and mother
Things won’t come easy,
But we’ll help one another

And one final notion,
As we gaze in our mirrors
Let us remember to love -
Love those we thought were inferior

Not only the poor or small children,
Or the ones once cursed to hell,
But as we gaze in our mirrors
Let’s vow to love ourselves

So as we make these resolutions
We’ll lock away the past
To face a new start
And live like it’s our last

Now high fives all around
And let out a whistle!
Tonight we’ll sleep like we’ve never slept -
Tomorrow we’ll do more than sit still!

Cuz we’re gonna be something the world hasn’t seen
We’re existing with others, starting a new trend
Now let’s say it together - don’t ignore us cuz we’re teens! -
