New Year

Countdown to midnight and raise a great cheer

It’s a New Year and it’s time we celebrate

But what is so special about this minute?

It’s time to get a new calendar

We have to remember to change the year on checks

But how is this midnight different from the others?

Why do we make promises, promises we ne’er can keep?

Shouldn’t we always strive to be better?

So I’ll not speak my New Year’s resolution

For it hasn’t changed since many years past

And I make a new resolution with each breath I breathe

I’ll strive to be better; I’ll strive to be good

For after all, isn’t that what we all want?
