A Ballad of Fate
Of the Heavens she did arrive;
A girl pretty and fair,
She knew not if she were alive.
She’d landed with a scare.
‘Winter,’ it was her given name.
She’d wanted to escape:
Her life was no more than a game.
Her life was in bad shape.
Awaiting her in the shadows
Was a handsome young Elf,
Dressed in clothes as green as meadows,
Sitting on a tree shelf.
‘O pretty maiden from the sky,’
Said the Elf quietly.
‘Who are you and why do you cry?’
Questioned the Elf softly.
‘I am Winter,’ was her answer,
‘Where am I? Am I dead?’
She sat awaiting his answer
To ev’rything she said.
‘I do not know why you still live,
Fair Lyra the Maiden.
There must be something you must give,’
Said the Elf named Odin.
A maiden pretty as can be
An Elf green as the grass
(A strange union many would agree),
Their fate had come to pass.
The young woman and the Elf went
Away as Fate declared,
For Fate was why she had been sent.
It was a Fate they shared.
However, they were opposed by
An evil mortal man.
He’d heard of the girl from the sky
And he formed a plan.
He would destroy the bizarre pair.
He knew it was his Fate
To plunge the world into despair,
And thus he could not wait.
A prophecy had stated that
He would be defeated
By a boy Elf and mortal brat.
They would be defeated.
A maiden pretty as can be
An Elf green as the grass
(A strange union many would agree),
Their fate would come to pass.
The time came for the young travellers
To reach the evil Lord
The war to turn Chaos to Order
Loss they could not afford
Winter and Odin fought very hard
And in the end they won.
The evil Lord died by a sword
A new era had begun.
A maiden pretty as can be
An Elf green as the grass
(A strange union many would agree),
Their fate did come to pass.
And then Winter’s time to leave came.
Her adventure was done
And her life would not be the same.
She felt no need to run.
As for Odin, he would miss her.
She had been the Elf’s Fate
And true love. He knew it for sure.
She left him in a state.
