Safe as Chocolate

The world is an amazing place and

drunk on the horizon

I bring up the rear.

Not protecting anybody

but in love with everything,

not clearing new ground

but stuck in three different place – unable

to tear myself from the view while

absolutely willing to tear myself apart,

to pour the world into my hands and watch it

fall through, quicksilver-pristine

water reflecting my infatuated face my

lips forming into kitten-“aww”.

I can’t hold on to anything.

It gets cold and I wrap my arms around me,

find civilization then

stare too long at it’s fire,

burn myself up because the flames are so beautiful!

(But unlike a moth,

I persist.

Drag on.

Savour the view just a moment longer, and a moment longer,

and another moment, and a moment longer still!

and in veins unending

my heart goes out to all those I’ve watched

growupfindlovemakepeace.)

(It goes out to them from an

untouchable perch

called secret vice or maybe indulgence,

safe as chocolate.)
