People say,
You can’t fall in love with a picture on a wall.
But here I am, unable to tear my eyes away.
Drinking in your shining eyes,
Your rare smile.
I know that no face is more beautiful.
They say,
You can’t fall in love with words on a screen.
But your words are what entranced me,
So willing to bear your soul,
Actually taking the time to see my words as well.
And how you somehow understood what I meant.
Some say,
You can’t fall in love with just a voice.
But yours has soothed me for so long.
Only hearing your voice calms my nerves,
Makes me feel safe.
It still gives me a thrill every time I hear it.
So maybe we’re not conventional,
Not up to the standards of “normal”
But we were never normal to begin with.
So I say,
How can they say that you can’t be in love,
If there’s no physical aspect?
Is that all it really is to them?
We’re more than that,
Know each other better than anyone else in the world.
This can’t be faked.
Someday they’ll see what we know.
When we’re together and it actually “makes sense”.
Until then,
I can fall in love with your picture, your words, your voice.
And all the other things I love.
Because who really cares what they say?
