You Are What You Eat

He bit off the wings of butterflies
and let them melt upon his tongue.
He pretended they were sugar cubes
and the bodies were sweet gum.

-

He hid up in the attic
and chased moths from the clothes.
He sat out beside the anthills
till they wandered from their homes.

-

He picked up wiggling centipedes
from the dusty ground
and he'd giggle as he swallowed.
(They tickled going down.)

-

He caught jars full of fireflies
staying out each night.
He opened up the pickle jars
and gulped down their neon light.

-

He washed all this down with water
from puddles off the streets.
It took the candy flavor
and left mud in his teeth.

-

I asked him why he did it...
why he chose to eat such things.
"Because I could run with many legs
or maybe just grow wings."

AN: I had an idea for a story with an eccentric kid in the country who's picked on and such... And I might use him in a story. And stuff. And I'm aware my rhymes don't always rhmye exactly...and I'm satisfied with that.
