This isn’t how I pictured life

The scores I settled

Weren’t important

Tears were shed

And bones were broken

The dreams we had

Are lying dormant

Whatever happened to the dreamer’s eyes

When did the heartbreak and the sorrow

Turn the picture books to lies

When did the innocent get punished

And the brave get left to die

Whatever happened to this of world of mine

Somewhere along the lines

The promise for a better nation

Slipped away and left behind

Petrol fumes and Central Station

What happened to the open plains?

What happened the carefree days?

What happened to the people

Who would make things stay the same?

Is there a place, I might go

Where the air is pure enough to breathe

Tell me and give me hope

Somehow I will make my way home

What happened to Martin Luther King

Back in ’63?

What happened to the people

Who made the Negro free?

What stole the spirit

Of the wild mustang

What could pull out the

Red-scaled dragon’s blood-soaked fang

When all the doors have been opened

And all the rides have been ridden

When everything seems to break away

When the darkness falls

Over a bright blue sky

When the clouds pass over

The sun don’t go away

Whatever happened to the dreamer’s eyes

When did the heartbreak and the sorrow

Turn the picture books to lies

When did the innocent get punished

And the brave get left to die

Whatever happened to this of world of mine
