Dedicated to Jeffrey McDaniel's A Quiet World.

Distant Lover’s Excuse
I asked Her to come to my house. He asked me to ask Her why. He couldn’t stand it anymore; being the only one who cared about Their relationship. He needed to know why She could never save enough words to utter I love you back to Him. I had already explained this to Her and this is what She said:
“I never was much of a talker until I met him. Come to think of it, I never was much of an anything before I met him. In fact, my life was pretty dreary when he wasn’t around.
I don’t know. There’s just something about him that makes me feel good about myself. He makes me fly; as if I was the only oasis in the desert world. It’s thanks to him that I feel so good about myself.
I want the world to know but the government has come up with this damned law that only allows me one hundred and sixty seven words. That’s like six billion less than I need. How do I spread the word about my love? How do I tell him I love him? He’s probably annoyed that I always seem to run out of words at the end of the day. He probably thinks I don’t love him! Tell him no; I love him, I love him, I love—”
She took a sharp intake of breath and gave a silent sob.
