HOOP SHOT
CHAPTER 5
I had been a long day.
When I got outside, I didn’t see my mom’s car, a green suburban, in the parking lot or in the stream of cars coming toward the school.
That’s strange! I thought to myself, she’s always here on time.
Then, I walked over to a group of my friends and tried to figure out what they were talking about. I couldn’t, so I walked off, back into the building.
I waited for my mom by the door and constantly looked out the window. I saw a green suburban pull up. Fifty minutes late, a new record for the books.
When we got home, my mom said that I looked a little sick and told me that I was probably just tired from staying up so late the previous night. She then told me to go upstairs to my room and rest up, because we had a busy night ahead of us.
A busy night...What are we doing tonight? Nothing I know of.
I went to my room and sat down in my chair at my desk. I wondered if being late had anything to do with the busy night. I decided to stop worrying about it because I would find out soon enough.
I scanned my room for my iPod, but it was nowhere to be found. That was probably because my room was so junky. I searched for fifteen minutes and finally found it under a pile of dirty clothes.
I had just put on the headphones when the phone rang. It stopped ringing, so I assumed my mom got it.
After about two minutes, she called me downstairs and said it was for me. I wondered who could be calling me and why they would, so I asked who it was. She said she didn’t know but assumed it was somebody from school.
