I've had this for a little bit, before I was so busy, I found some time to post it. Still unsure if it's going to be a whole story or just this little prolouge. Tell me what you think. : )
Darkest Depths
Every night I’m followed by something every time I leave the house. It’s taunting me, daring me to stand up to it. It knows I won’t, it senses my fear, the numbness that overcomes every time I see it. I’m running from it, but it’s always right behind me.
Drowning, slowly fading. There’s no such thing as innocence in a world as pitiful as this. There’s no end to where I’m running in this blank space. Nothing left, losing hope. I have to keep running, or else the end will find me. It’s never giving up, it’s always moving, I’m losing my senses, and I’m losing the game. It just isn’t right with this never ending play. I’m losing it all and I’m going to fall.
The cold, icy rain splattered down onto the ground as footsteps were heard. Panting and tripping, a little girl ran through the empty streets of a deserted town. Slowly and quietly, she chanted to herself mumbled words of help. She turned sharply to the right before tripping on a crease in the street. She landed roughly onto the cold, hard ground, water splashing as she scrambled to get up. This has to be a dream! Thought the girl, this is horrible. She stood up and looked around before sprinting yet again towards the largest building she could find up ahead. She pulled on the door, luckily it had opened. She ran inside, screaming as she stopped dead. She shut her mouth.
They can hear you, every scream. Every plea for help, every Death is heard. As the sound of a single bell ringing in it’s solitary silence. You’ll never lose them. Ever-returning death’s lasting no such number of lifetimes.
It was a church. Tall and over-powering in it’s strong position.Walking up to the candles, she gazed up at the tall statues situated around the room. She took two candles and took a look around the room. The loud thunder taunting her, daring her to do something, she couldn’t. Frozen to the spot, she sat and prayed to the goddess. Save my soul, I grant only one need. Only one need, one plea, one to end, this life is worth nothing, nothing to live by. But I ask this once, as many more are to come, hope is everlasting. I ask you to guide me through this; you shall grey my life and blacken my heart if only this be grant. She slowly and drowsily repeated this, until, leaning back onto the cool stone wall, she fell asleep.
A loud crack awoke her. It was probably the lightning, she assured herself, until a loud crashing sound followed shortly after. She sat up, whipping around. One of the statues had fallen over crashing onto a bench across from her. The one beside it was also starting to fall. It tipped and slowly swayed towards the ground. The girl ran to the door, pulling it hard, but it wouldn’t open. It was jammed.
“Help, someone help me!” she screamed, banging against the door, there was nothing left to do now. There was nobody out in this deserted town. She took a deep breath, and turned, staring at the intricate designs of the now falling statues. She wouldn’t be known. No one noticed. No one noticed that the worst darkness had just flickered from existence. She walked down the small isle, walking towards the cross, that was to be her death.
