SOME OF US

The words that we said

Came out different;

And meanings we wrought

Finished in dissonance;

But some of us laughed

And some of us cried

And some of us hoped

While some of us died.

The things that we thought

Burned holes through our tongues;

And we sacrificed many

For a few selected ones;

But some of us fell

And some of us flew

And some of us lied

But the rest of us knew.

The thoughts that we spoke

Were born premature;

And words left still-born

Masquerade as demure;

But some of us laughed

And some of us cried

And some of us hoped

And watched as we died.
