ON TORN WINGS

On torn wings of hope and desire

We’ll try to rise up and fly higher and higher

But we’ll fail and fall;

We’ll build up our walls.

And no, you can’t come in and know me,

You can’t erase sins with dignity.

On torn wings of blackened, burned hope,

We’ll tell the world to let go of our throats.

But we’ll choke just the same,

And we’ll play, and lose, the game.

And no, you will never be what I’ve lost

And no, you will never be able to pay the cost.

On broken wings of flesh and blood

Above a world of soulless, cracked mud.

But we’ll fly on uselessly;

And we’ll die on uselessly.

For what you can’t explain to me

And turn a blind eye to what you won’t see.
