Chapter Sixteen
The next day dawned, and the mansion was in full preparation for Mary and Daylen’s wedding. Everyone was excited for the master of the large beautiful property was getting married. Not even the sallow faced guard had anything to complain about as he had had for Damien’s wedding. This time, Lacuna was the bride of honor, and Violeta was the teenaged flower girl. Daylen and Mary wanted to make it fair. They wanted Lacuna and Mary’s daughter to have an equal position. Morguin got lucky. He was the ring bearer once again.
“I can’t wait to wear it again.” He said, indicating his neatly ironed black three-peace suit, which the tailors had so painstakingly made for him. Lacuna had another beautiful crimson dress. It was velvety at the top, and ran down changing to silk towards the bottom. It reached the floor, and she had beautiful red high-healed shoes to match. It took a long time for the maids to do her long hair. By the time it was done, they said she was the prettiest girl, next to the bride of course, around. She blushed at that.
The wedding would take place at two that afternoon, and now it was one thirty. The cooks were overdoing themselves to get ready. Mary was in almost a delirium with trying to get everything ready in time. Daylen was in another part of the mansion getting ready. He kept up the tradition of “Its bad luck to see the bride before the wedding.” Elena and Damien were getting ready. But they were exhausted from their long wedding day. They were cheerful never the less, all smiles and excitement. Lacuna was in charge of getting the flowers, which Violeta would toss on the church rug in front of the Bride as she walked down the isle.
“Hi again.” Lacuna smiled at the nice lady behind the counter of the same sweetly smelling flower shop she had visited the previous day.
“Why hello again. Back for some more flowers? Hope the ones I gave you yesterday worked alright.” Lacuna smiled still more broadly.
“Oh yes. They were great. Thank you. But today, Sir Daylen of the Eastwood Manor is getting married to the fair Lady Mary.”
“Oh how nice. What can I do for you then?”
“I need white flowers which the flower girl throws in front of the bride. Do you know what I mean?”
“Certainly I do. I wouldn’t be a florist if I didn’t.” She said with a smile, and Lacuna laughed. “Just a second while I fetch them.” Lacuna waited, and in a few minutes, the lady returned with a basket of fresh silky white flowers. Lacuna took them from her, and sniffed. They gave off a rosy smell.
“Very nice. Thanks.” The woman nodded.
“Will there be anything else?” Lacuna shook her head. The price was stated, and soon, Lacuna returned to the mansion. She found that all was ready, and went to change in to her red gown. It was truly beautiful. Her hair was already done, and when she saw Mary, she gasped in amazement.
“You look beautiful Mary.” Mary laughed joyfully. She was wearing a puffy long white wedding dress all decorated with beads, which covered it with flower patterns. Her hair was filled with tiny white flowers, and she held a sweetly smelling bouquet of flowers in one hand.
“And so do you Lacuna. You look like a porcelain doll.” Lacuna smiled.
“I can’t believe you and Sir Daylen are getting married. I just can’t picture it.”
“You’ll get used to it.” They proceeded to the church. As Lacuna filed down the isle, she saw that once again, the pews were filled to the bursting point. This time, even more people filled the church than the day before. There was the flourish of organ music, which greeted the bridal party. Then, Lacuna, Morguin, and company sat, watching the bride and her groom enter grandly. They made a fascinating couple. Daylen’s suit was crisp, formal, and new. He had a broad smile on his face, and looked handsome walking with his soon to be wife. Elena and Damien were accompanying them. Violeta threw flowers in front of the bride, and soon she joined them as Mary and Daylen took their places at the alter for the service. Soon, Morguin stood to bring the rings, and Lacuna stood as Maid of Honor. The vows were made, and soon they were wed. As they shared a kiss, clapping overtook the large church hall. Everyone was happy. The dancing party lasted late into the night on the echoes of happy wedding bells. The war was over! All was well. At least for a while. No one lived happily ever after, but they would make the best of their lives until the end of their days.
