A silent stalker in the night

Climbs upon you as a shadow leaps to cover the extra space

Your follower, a welcomed foe, but dreaded all the same

You cringe as its claws dig into your skin

A mixed feeling of torment and secret pleasure

You push away from your worst nightmare, but cling to it in lusty desire

You can’t bring yourself to let go, no matter what the cost

No matter how many tears are shed on its behalf

No matter how many of them are yours

No matter how many nights you spend

Looking to it to heal your broken soul, while it drives a knife in your heart

Leaving deep gashes of death, time and time again

So why can’t you let go

Why is it that every time you get hurt, you go back to the source of your pain

To the source of your heartache

It’s stupid, don’t you know

To try to find comfort in the very thing that ripped you apart at the seams

When all the time you run to the darkness

There’s another way to find comfort from the agonizing gnashing of teeth

Sure, the road there’ll be harsh

You’ll have to give up your formidable opponent

Your sweet, rich pleasure

Your back-stabbing, disdainful, and deadly game of sin

A few desires ridden, and a few sacrifices made

But none that compare to the ultimate, the all-powerful, the first and last

You’ll go through deep streams of self-doubt and frustration

You’ll find yourself lost amongst trees in which you can’t find your guide

And you’ll even encounter several chances to go crawling back

To that disgusting gloom that you called your friend

Two steps forward, one step back

Your partner in crime right behind you until the very end

But on your dreary path

You’ll rid yourself of the sickening guilt that follows after sweet indulgence

You’ll find freedom where you never knew you were bound by cast-iron chains

You’ll find a friend, comforter, and healer

The ultimate forgiveness, to save you from an ultimate doom

Until you’ve found yourself at a road, so narrow, looming above a pit of despair

Pencil thin, right through the valley of the shadow of death

But paved of pure gold, pure love and freedom like you’ve never dreamed before

The choice is yours, my dear, my beloved, my child

Will you hold your head up high and rely on me

Will you trust me to catch you when you fall

Or will you turn back to your blissful enemy, your deceitful lover

On the path that is wide, but sodden and destroyed

The choice is yours, my dear, my beloved, my child

Will you be mine?
