Ch. 1 Be careful on A Bet

The Sun was setting and Sarah stood in front of the Manor in fright. She knew the whole story was a fake. How a man lured wandering teenagers into his home and slaughtered them for a black magic sacrifice. It was just a ghost story parents told their children to stay away from the decaying ruins of the hellish place. ‘Falling apart, of course they’ll try to keep us away.’ she thought. ‘Why don’t they destroy the building?

She walked up the steps and a creek was heard cause of the small problem of wood rot. She continued on the porch and a small black crow caught the side of her eye. The crow cawed and flew from its nest in the tree and perched itself on the porch railing. “Stupid bird!” Sarah said waving it away with her flashlight. The crow stepped to the side as if a gust of wind just pushed it. “Eh, Whatever.” She turned the doorknob. Again the crow cawed. “Oh you-.” Sarah turned around and realized it was gone. She continued with her expedition and opened the door. As the door swung open a gust of cold wind flowed around her gentle body. Shivers ran up and down her spine. “Why did I listen to my brother?” She asked herself.

Memories of there argument flashed in her head.

James, there is no such thing as ghost!” She yelled at him.

Yes there is. I can prove it!.” James yelled back at her.

Sarah got up from her bed and flicked her long blonde hair. “Oh really? How?” She asked as curious as a cat.

Just go to the “1000 Ghost Manor”” He said.

Why?” she asked.

You’ll see a Ghost and scream your head off.” He explained.

Fine I’ll go but I bet I wont scream.” She said as she put on her shoes.

Okay… If you lose then you get to do all my chores for a month.” He told her.

Fair enough…I just get your room if I win.” She said with a giggle.

What!” He moaned.

It’s fair. I’m going into a “Haunted House” now that takes a lot of guts.” She said with more giggles.

Fine.” James sighed.

‘Why did I listen to him?’ she thought. She walked around with her flashlight out. Seeing how old this place is brought Sarah disgust. She kept walking in the decaying ruins of a once magnificent house. A rat squeaked and Sarah jumped a bit. “Why am I so scared, Ghost don’t exist.” She told herself. She walked down the main hallway. Her footsteps echoed against the walls. A scrapping sound was heard down the hallway. Sarah looked as far as she could see. ’There’s nothing there, it’s just a manifestation of my mind.’ She convinced herself. Giggling was heard from behind the door she stood next to. She turned to it and forced herself to check it out. She opened the door as fast as she could to hopefully frighten whatever is behind it. A small glimpse of a girl in a white nightgown pointing at the closet was seen in a blink of Sarah’s eyes.

It was the light of the flashlight and the darkness of the room and my eyes fooling me with the whole scary story.’ she explained in her head. She pointed her flashlight back and forth to find she was in a room that once belonged to a little girl.

Teddy bears, Games, Fluffy pillows, pink… A girls room. Sarah walked around and looked at all the fascinating toys. She picked up a pink lion and smiled. It was adorable, a little dusty, but still cute. The sound of an opening door caught Sarah’s ears. She dropped the pink lion and turned around. The closet door had opened a crack.

Sarah walked to the door. She did not have control of her legs. They walked one step at a time closer and closer. She continued, her breath got heavier with each step she took for she was getting scared. She was being drawn by a force like no other. Her feet stopped and she was at the door. Her hands slid through the opening of the door. Opening it slowly. The hair on the back of her neck pricked up. The door now fully opened Sarah could see into the closet. There was nothing in it absolutely nothing. She looked down at her feet and found a small Diary. She leaned over and picked it up. As she started to read she realized it was a little girls handwriting.

Daddy got me new frends today. There triplets to! Theres Alex the oldest Xander who was the second of the three and Xandra who was the yungest and a girl like me!

Sarah looked up from the entry and saw a pair of big brown eyes starring at her. A cold hand slowly grabbed her shoulder and the face of a young girl came from the closets shadows.

“You’re my new friend.” She said.

As she said this she grabbed Sarah tighter and pulled her into the closet.

Sarah screamed.
