Hannah stood, motionless by the window and stared out at the forest, sorrow pooling in the depths of her dark crimson eyes. Outside the light of day was fading away leaving the forest with an ominous, foreboding appearance. Hannah often wondered how beautiful it looked when night revised to morning. Though night began to claim the earth, the birds continued to sing their usual solemn tune and the wind rattled the branches of the trees. When the two sounds clashed it produced a pleasant, rather harmonious sound and a surreal sensation struck Hannah, causing her thoughts to cease.

She did not know exactly the word to describe what she felt, but she imagined herself running along the forest path without a care in the world, letting the wind gently caress her white locks. She was smiling, laughing, diving into the pools of dusk light that poured out upon the forest floor. Then she laid down in a soft, calm meadow, letting the tall blades of grass tickle her feet and her sides. The soft rays of sunlight washed over her body, cleansing her of all sadness, sorrow and grief and replacing it with happiness and bliss. If only she could utter the wonderful word that she yearned to speak, the word that described her fantasies. Without another thought, the word forced itself from deep within her throat and escaped her soft moist lips. "Freedom."

The word sounded so beautiful coming from her mouth; so sweet and tranquil and the moment Hannah muttered the word a shiver went down her spine. The word was strange, foreign to her, but she loved it. She spoke it once again, a little louder, a little more confidently. "Freedom!" A few seconds passed and then she slumped backward in her chair a frown replacing the small hopeful smile she briefly wore before realizing her foolishness. Freedom was only a wild fantasy never to come true; a distant dream. She would always, for eternity remain like this. Imprisoned and caged in this place she called now called "home". Where only darkness dwelled bringing along with it death, solitude and malice. The air smelled of decay and rot and all the walls were wet and dampened with mold and mildew. She spent her life now, living among cruel, merciless, blood craving freaks.

Hannah could not recall whom, but someone very close to her had always told her there was someone who's life was far worse than your own and that you should cherish the good life you were given. Hannah believed that, until the day a wretched woman, snatched her and drank her blood. Despite the miserable change from a content, happy, carefree human to a creature of eternal death and darkness, her personality didn't seem to change that much. She was lonely and frightened, but she still dreamed of freedom and refused to drink blood or harm humans. The other vampires were probably overcome with confusion. They couldn't possibly understand how vampires like themselves could deny their own food source- blood.

Deep down, though Hannah hated to admit it, she longed for blood. She was a fresh vampire, newly bitten and ever since her destiny took that abrupt turn, she had been miserable from lack of blood. She remembered the first night she stayed in the building, she shook feverishly all over and her breath became rapid and shallow as she moaned with agony. It has become even worse, now that she has been deprived of blood for three days now. Hannah had a difficult time containing herself and making it appear as if she was calm and at ease. Not that anyone would be there I the room to see... Disguising her desire for blood, prove to be quite a challenge. She sighed and straightened her posture, attempting her best to relieve the burning desire for blood that she suffered. Just then, a soft, but firm voice sliced through the heavy damp air in Hannah's quarters.

"Girl?" Hannah gasped and jumped out of her seat, disappearing into the comforting shadows in the corner of her room. She was originally afraid of the dark and loved to be outdoors in the light, but now everything was different from what it was before. Hannah now preferred the deep suffocating shadows in the room, rather than the bliss, warm rays of golden sunlight. She paused a moment, releasing her fear. Her head snapped to the direction of her door. There she saw that woman standing in the entrance. The woman that left two little puncture marks on the skin of her pale neck. Only a silhouette was visible but Hannah could easily tell that it was the woman that fed on her blood and changed her into a vampire. "Y-You startled me," Hannah began as she slinked out of the darkness to stand before the woman. The woman just stared down upon Hannah expressionless. Hannah was locked into the woman's gaze and for some strange reason, could not look away. She searched the woman's eyes for hatred and lust for destruction of mankind but unfortunately failed to see any of that.

Instead, she looked weary, depressed and full of grief and stress. For a minute, Hannah felt sympathetic for the woman. But wait! She shouldn't feel such a feeling for her! This was the very woman that changed her unwillingly into a vampire. She was a wicked creature and deserved no pity! Hannah wanted to strike out against the woman. Drive a wooden stake through her cold unforgiving heart! But the woman didn't have a cold unforgiving heart. In fact, the night she approached Hannah, she seemed hesitant and reluctant to feed upon her. And Hannah also noticed the single red tear that streamed down the woman's face as she pulled away from her neck and watched, as Hannah grew paler and collapsed to the ground unconscious. As much as Hannah wanted to believe that the woman was evil and coldhearted, no such thing was found to be true. And when Hannah discovered this, she was dismayed. She just knew she was capable of hating the woman. She yearned for a reason, even one that scarcely made since, to detest her.

Hannah's stomach did a flip as she again felt the powerful surge of lust for blood. A pang of guilt seized Hannah as realization struck her. The woman had to have blood. Not many humans wandered around the isolated forest and when this woman saw Hannah, she probably couldn't pass up the chance to suck her blood. She probably suffered from lack of blood just as Hannah did. In addition to that, she could have killed Hannah, but she didn't. That alone proved that this woman stood out from the others. The others would not have spared her, whereas this woman did. Hannah finally looked away. The mysterious woman stepped inside the room and placed a hand on Hannah's shoulder.

"I've heard from the others that you've been a lone wolf up here." Hannah was captivated by the woman's voice. She hadn't really heard her speak until now and Hannah automatically loved her voice. It was smooth, elegant, mesmerizing and it suited her amazingly perfect features. The woman was no doubt blessed with beauty and the glint in her dark eyes as she spoke was hypnotizing. "I bet you're just as much as a lone wolf as I am," Hannah argued back defiantly. "Maybe so...but that isn't really any of your business now is it?" the woman said in a semi-stern voice. Hannah hung her head and stared down at her feet shamefully. "I suppose not." "Well it's nice to know that you're not the surly, ill-tempered, disagreeable type," Resana murmured. Then she took the girl's chin in her hand. "All is forgiven. By the way my name is Resana. May I ask what yours is?" "Hannah. Hannah Lee Brown." The woman thought a moment and then stood, pacing slowly, with her hands behind her back. "...Hannah. Hm, you really do need a traditional vampire name like the rest of us." Resana paused looking out of the window at the woods. "Give me some time to think about it. Then I will present you with a worthy name."

Hannah crept back into the shadows, where she felt safe and protected. "Er...yes. Thank you." Hannah felt annoyed. I don't want a vampire name! My name is Hannah and I want it to stay that way. Resana continued to watch out the window at the day succumbing to night. "You will refer to me as your master. I am not your equal. In social status I reign over you. Your actions will be monitored by me and you are under my command whether you like it. You must not do anything without my permission first. And please treat me with respect. If you do so I will return it." Hannah remained silent, slightly angered, but remained silent and still. Resana looked at her uncertainly. "Are we on the same page?" Hannah merely nodded her head, her heart burning with abhorrence toward the woman, but she understood by now that it was best not to trifle with her. All Resana could see were the glint of Hannah's beautiful, full, crimson eyes in the veil of shadows that fell upon her. "The others told me that they've knocked on your chamber door, wanting to meet you but you deny them and order them away. Why?" Resana asked, looking deeply into those timid, yet fierce red eyes. There was a moment of silence and then Hannah spoke.

"Why do you refer to the vampires as 'the others'? Shouldn't you be calling them 'your fellow vampires'?" "You never answered my question," Resana returned, ignoring Hannah's question. "I won't answer until your answer my question!" Hannah retorted. Resana sighed wearily. "Did I say that you weren't the disagreeable type?" she muttered, looking off to the side. "Are you going to answer me?" Hannah asked, impatiently. Resana's eyes flashed with anger. "No! Of course I'm not! I have authority over you! What makes you think you could order me about little girl!" Resana hissed harshly. Hannah looked at her master's glowering face and crept back a little and lowered her head not in shame, but in intense fear. "I am sorry my master." Resana looked somewhat satisfied, but it was often hard to tell, because her face scarcely displayed emotion. "Now then, why are you not mingling with your...'fellow vampires'?" Hannah turned her attention on a small hole on the ground by her feet. "Because I hate vampires," she said, voice resolute and boldly signifying pure detestation. "Hate vampires?" Resana repeated. Hannah looked up at her master briefly. "I have my reasons," she said quietly, voice not so bold now and obvious emotion wavering in her voice no matter how much she tried to hide it.

Resana chuckled. "Sorry, but aren't you saying that you hate yourself? ‘Tis foolish isn't it?" Hannah looked up, defiance shining in her bold eyes. "If I could, if it were possible, I would kill myself!" Resana's lips tightened into a frown. "Well, that's a bit of stretch isn't it, dear? I don't believe you would do so as to go that far." Hannah looked back down at the hole on the ground. "Oh, you'd be surprised master," she said in a low voice. Resana stood in silence, watching Hannah. After a few moments she spoke again. "Well, no matter. You're a vampire and you're stuck that way for eternity, so I suggest you find someway to cope with your undying hatred for vampirism." Resana began to walk away, when Hannah stopped her. "I...I'm in agony. I need something to eat or drink, badly," she said miserably, voice growing hoarse. Resana turned swiftly on one heel and met Hannah's eyes. "So you want some blood?" Hannah nodded her head and walked toward her master. "Very, well. Follow me," Resana said monotonously with a little wave of her hand indicating for Hannah to follow.
