Prologue
“What are you doing?”
The man turned to face the owner of the unknown voice. A young woman, about eighteen years of age, stood watching him, a look of curiosity on her face. She was of average height, skinny with golden-blonde hair and sea green eyes. He turned away and returned his gaze to the waves below. They crashed against the rocks with a deafening roar, trying to climb the cliff. They seemed to be in the act of running away from some horrifying beast, one that undoubtedly wanted to devour them. They were trapped, prisoners of mother earth. At that moment Lucien wanted the horrifying beast to catch him, to devour him.
“Do you know what a disaster is?” he asked, not taking his eyes from the prisoners struggling below.
“Pardon?” asked the girl, taking a step forward.
Lucien took a piece of paper out of his pocket and read: “An event causing widespread destruction and distress; an event resulting in great loss or misfortune.” He looked at the girl. She took a step back as she saw something in his eyes. They were wild and terrifying, black with anger and seemed to brim with madness. He had a crazy look on his countenance and his hair, which was being thrown about by the coastal wind, only added to the picture. “Not very nice, is it?” he hissed fiercely. “The world is full of disaster. Hurricanes, tornados, tsunamis and they never stop. They’re always causing problems. Well, I intend to rid the world of one disaster so it’ll never have to face it again.” He turned back to stare at the churning water below. Taking a deep breath he prepared himself for death.
