This Is Summer 11/27/06

Children search among
the cornstalks for memories;
bloodied knees and stained shins
are their proof.
Tickle monsters and dancing pixies
interrupt every other half-hour.

The words pour off your tongue,
you never seem to run
out of fun things to say.
Your voice lingers like the
taste of sugar cubes and
fits together like jigsaw puzzles.

Lemonade stains on shirt sleeves,
s’mores still being licked off lips.
Vanilla yogurt clouds
and a sunset that bleeds
across the sky like water colors
on thin paper.

Baby, grab your swimsuit- ‘cause for sure

this must be summer.
