So We Were Told

We were tolf
To never be bolde
To pbery no matter if we're sold
Never see the light of day
Never show our face to men
Never be allowed our say
Never given that for which we pray;
Never free again.

We were tolf
Whether or not to grow old
How many kids we get to have
What we like and don't
When to sleep and when to cry
Who to hate and who to love
Where to go and where's awry
Yet never why we must comply

We were told
Be cold
For hop destroys all.

What they didn't know
Was that hope is good
And good things never die.
Good things beget bad things,
Yet stars shine in the night sky
Sun rises even though it sets,
And when it's dark enough,
You may even see the moon.

Life is not life -
Must be spent by either living or dying
Never in between.
We were told
'tis not true
'tis not the way of Allah
'tis not the way of our masters
'tis not the way of women.

So we were told.
