When the Angels Cry
My heart's been frozen for all of time,
Cracking and withering before my eyes.
There are frosty truths that shatter my faith,
They reach down inside me and clutch at my soul.
The demons of the universe are out for my head,
Twisting my dreams so they can never come true.
When the angels fight and no one sees,
When the angels fight and no one hears,
When the angels fight and nobody gives a damn
The fangs of all time and all of space
sink into this world and rip apart the pieces.
Falling through time and embracing the fury,
I'm the only one left but there's no one to fight.
For hundreds of years I traveled alone,
Crawling on my knees and crying no tears.
My home reminds me of who I am,
But there’s an emptiness inside that takes away all that remains.
When the angels cry and no one sees,
When the angels cry and no one hears,
When the angels cry and nobody's ever there to care
So cold seems eternity within endless depths of insanity,
Hope for humanity lost to an abyss of no entity.
There's a kind of beauty in the anguish of their tears,
A rain of fiery truths that must have been sent from up above.
These call to my mind and drain me of my strength
For morality’s the game and I’ve forgotten how to play.
I held your hand in mine and told you to come,
Breathe new life into me and keep me company.
These broken wings of mine should never have flown,
But with you I soared and reached for the stars.
You followed me - a complete stranger - wherever I went,
And despite all the danger, you were always by my side.
When the angels fight and no one sees,
When the angels fight and no one hears,
When the angels fight and nobody gives a damn
The fangs of all time and all of space
sink into this world and rip apart what remains.
When the angels cry and no one sees,
When the angels cry and no one hears,
When the angels cry and nobody's there to care
So cold seems eternity within endless depths of insanity,
Hope for humanity lost to an abyss of no entity.
There are things deep and sound that sing to the world,
Calling your name and screaming at mine.
They conquer all fears but bring about terrors,
And we cling to each other, so afraid of letting go.
What is worth to those that feel they have none?
What is strength but that which we need to survive?
What is hope to millions upon trillions of lives imprisoned in poverty?
What is love to a man who has none to give?
Personally, I believe it's the faith you can only get from someone else,
A token of trust that may eternally be unbroken.
I see light at the end of the tunnel,
And through your strength, it leads me to live.
There are things deep and sound that sing to the world,
These call to my mind and drain me of my own strength.
A love that conquers yet brings about horrors,
And we cling to each other, too afraid of letting go.
There's a kind of beauty in the anguish of their tears,
A rain of fiery truths that must be sent from up above;
And we cling to each other, afraid to let go,
Though move on we must,
Yet I never could or will.
You follow, and it kills me and saves me all at once,
Your strength and my soul, bound forever,
Though forever is as time;
Relative, ceaseless, and incomprehensible -
Untouched, always, by love.
And so the angels cry.
