I Wished I Hadn’t

I walked into the dark room

And wished I hadn’t.

Sadness.

Overwhelming.

I looked into her peaceful face

And wished I hadn’t.

Not blinking.

So still.

My tears flow.

Like everyone else’s.

The sadness is thick like this hard chair I sit in.

You can feel the sadness everywhere.

I hear the priest speaking of death- her death,

And wished I couldn’t.

So final.

Please no.

I say goodbye now

And wished I could have said it before.

Too late.

Goodbye.

I wrote this for my Great Aunt. Every word is true.
