I’m Thankful For...

The stallion stood, secure and gallant

Towering over his claim

And if it wasn’t for all the gifts

His life wouldn’t be the same

They had all toiled themselves to dust

Taking the time to believe

Staying by each other’s side

And vowing not to leave

Thoughts tumbled in his psyche

Dripping down into his heart

Of all the things for he could thank

Where would he start?

I am thankful for…

The curious ebony shadow

That moved in mysterious ways

Taking the time to comfort him

Upon those stormy days

Telling him the stories

Happenings of yesterday

Revealing to him the sea

The thousand shades of grey

I am thankful for…

His dancing crimson cousin

Dancing in the spray

Sparkling umber optics

All the words to say

Playing in the waters

With her heart of gold

Bravery in her every step

‘Spite of the chilling cold

I am thankful for…

His giddy eccentric brother

With his hobbling run

Despite old laming injuries

He still enjoyed the fun

A stimulating reflex

Storm the dragon keep

His gigantic heart

Was buried none too deep

I am thankful for…

The wise and caring ancestors

The ones who got him here today

Following in their forlorn prints

Guiding him all this way

Following their teachings

And the wisdom that came

Searching out the old

And making new yet again.

I am thankful for…

His unwavering herd

Seething with extreme loyalty

Churning with such energy

Made to match those of royalty

A rainbow of stunning colour

Chestnuts, blacks, and bays,

Palominos, appaloosas

Browns, duns, and grays

I am thankful for…

His lands, the realm

His fantasies come true

The chance to spread his own wings

The possibility to start anew

To govern as he pleases

As the emperor, the king

With smiles on his subjects faces

At long last will come the spring!

I am thankful for…

He stood in the snow

Deep in his remembering

The wind blew around his cannons

And he heard faint bells ring

But he was most thankful

For this was the season

For the name given to him

His dubbing was: “Ribbon”
