In Your Arms (Once Upon a Time))

Lying here under weeping willow trees,

With you holding me in your arms,

I can’t think of anything more perfect.

I want to stay here – for just a while more

Or maybe even forever.

I don’t want this to cease – you here with me.

(Because if it does,

I’m afraid for us drifting apart.)

Once upon a time I fell –

And someone I loved was there to pick me up.

But I wonder if that person,

Will be there to pick me up tomorrow?

When I’m here in your arms,

All the bad things – all my irrational fears,

They all gently fly away.

I’m not afraid of tomorrow,

And what it will bring.

I’m not afraid of being replaced,

Or that you won’t love me anymore.

I’m not afraid of not being good enough,

Or doing something wrong.

(I’m not afraid to die,

Because I know I’ll see you soon.)

Once upon a time I was broken –

(A time not too long ago)

But some one loved me – I couldn’t believe it,

But they made it hurt a little less.

When you look into my eyes,

(Which I almost never let you)

I always take away a deeper understanding.

(I’m sorry can’t look into people’s souls,

It rips mine apart.)

You always look so sad all the time,

Won’t you please smile?

(Even if it’s just for me?)

You’re hurting so much – I can tell,

But I haven’t quite figured out why.

Once upon a time I met you –

And everything felt almost alright,

But they continued to hurt us.

(Maybe it’s my fault after all.)

When you brush those eyelashes over my neck,

(Little butterfly kisses)

I know that you still love me.

I may be broken still in some places,

But I’ll still try to heal.

(I’ll promise you.)

Simple affection,

(The best kind)

Can make all the pain go away.

(But you just don’t let me return the favor.)

Once upon a time I cried into you –

Your shoulder’s probably so wet by now

But then again, you do like the rain.

(But tears aren’t rain are they?)

When you whisper in my ears,

(Those perfect words)

“I love you”

There’s no simple response.

Those words they mean so much

But are they enough?

(To you do they mean enough?)

You can tell me so many beautiful things,

But I can’t express my simplest thoughts.

Once upon a time I needed someone –

And that’s when I found you,

(I can’t thank you enough)

Or more like you found me.

I’m dreaming for our better tomorrow,

Once upon a time.
