Elliott Smith could be considered a great American poet,
He made the soundtrack for my life,
It's like he's the only person to ever understand,
Considering his fate, I suppose that's a bad thing...

And I feel like I'm screaming aloud,
But no one is going to hear me
Everyone else has packed up their things
And by now they've left town...

(Chorus A)

Alone and in peril

I walk down the streets

That I've walked my whole life...
Wondering aloud, "Will I ever get it right?"

And as summer again becomes fall
The days, they grow shorter
My heart grows colder and colder
And I'm dying just like the leaves

It's hard to imagine a world
Where I am not in it...
But I realize one day it will come,
It's a fact I can't ignore...

(Bridge)
And If I met myself from the past
There'd be no room for my ego...
So we'd have to draw straws
To see who fucked things up worse...

(Chorus B)
But that's irrelevant now...
As I walk down the streets
That I've walked my whole life...
Wondering aloud, "Will I ever get it right?"

(Chorus A)
Alone and in peril
I walk down the streets
That I've walked my whole life...
Wondering aloud, "Will I ever get it right?"
