God
Have you met my most loyal friend?
His name is God.
You look at me and give a spiteful nod.
He has been upset, you’ve said he’s pretend.
You refuse to whisper amen.
You cruelly turn your back on him.
He extends his hand time and time again.
You walk away, head held high, manners prim.
He has sent me with a question for you.
Why do you bid Him a crushing adieu?
You say He’s a man you don’t need.
God is no man.
With a blissful look at earth, life began.
He expected humans to succeed.
Disappointment must fill his eyes.
They do not see his existence.
And through all the thunderstorms He cries,
His own children keep adding more distance.
I think we should all join hands in prayer,
And make the earth a better place to share.
Call him God or Allah or Zeus,
It’s all the same.
The feeling is worth much more than the name.
We can make this work if we call a truce.
He will always be by your side,
Trying to keep the world in peace.
He’s your ally when others want to hide,
The protector when there are no police.
And though I sin and brutally offend,
I always try to be God’s loyal friend.
