Firefox: A New Beginning

Disclaimer:

I’m new here to FictionPress…This idea has been in my head for a long time, just waiting to be used. This is my first manga story, and like I said at I don’t expect much praise about it.

I really don’t believe all that demon stuff…well I didn’t until the day my life changed forever because of one little dare...Oh, sure I’m still in junior high, grade 8 student with plenty of homework, but either way, with these new powers, I now have a big responsibility…

A loud beeping went off that made Cody fall out of his bed. He got up and rubbed his head, “I really need to set the volume on that damn alarm…” he growled. He then looked at the time. “Damn it!” Cody cried. “I’m late again!” He rushed to the drawer and took out his favorite sleeveless shirt, the one with the fireball emblazed on it. Good thing I wash it everyday. Cody thought with a smile. He then put some jeans on. There were many pockets, perfect for keeping plenty of small things in handy, like a cell phone in case of emergency. He then put on his red bandanna; the one dad gave him before he died. He was just eight years old at the time. Cody smiled and got on his red sneakers. He then ran downstairs and found his sister, Belle, getting ready to leave; her autumn yellow hair and green eyes glistened brightly in the sun of the open door. She turned around, “What’re you standing there for? You’re going to be late!” Cody shook out of the trance and grabbed a piece of toast. He popped it into his mouth and ran out the door.

The bell rang for school, and Cody was late…again, along with his sister of course. Cody barged into the classroom, panting from his speed run. “Sorry…I’m…late sir…” He said, sitting down and frowning at the teacher, who gave him a cold stare. “Well, now that you’re here.” The teacher said. “We can begin the lesson.” After what seemed like forever, the teacher finally finished by saying, “And don’t forget your history assignments are due tomorrow.” Cody flinched a sweat drop went down the back of his head. I completely forgot about the history assignment! He thought, furiously. Cody quickly got all the books needed for next class and left. After school, and after finding out about the other two assignments he forgot, Cody was walking out of the building, ready to finish the three assignments, along with math homework. Math… He thought who came up with these things? He sighed. Then Aiko ran up to him. “Hey Cody!” She said cheerfully. Cody only gave her a small moan, she sighed. “Forgot to do those three assignments, huh?” Cody nodded slowly then stared at her as she turned around to talk with the other girls.

If only I could tell you how I really feel about you…he muttered to himself quietly. Her orange hair and blue eyes, her sweet smile, there’s something to love about her. Cody bumped into one of the students who turned around and gave a small, evil smile. Oh no…he thought fearfully. “Well, well, well, look what we have here!” Gary said scornfully. He grabbed Cody by the collar of his shirt and lifted him up. “I guess I need to tell you again why nobody touches me…” He said, clenching his fist ready to punch him. “Wait Gary, hold up a second!” Cody said quickly. “Can’t we just talk this over?” Gary looked down thoughtfully, “Yeah I guess you’re right.” Cody looked surprised, “Really? You mean it?” Gary shrugged, “Nah, not really.” And then he started beating him up. Five minutes later, Cody walked with Aiko, battered and bruised with a bloody nose. “That Gary…” Aiko said, shaking her head. “I can’t believe he did that to you, I mean you accidentally bumped into him!” Cody rubbed the bruise on his head, “Well you really can’t blame him, and he has an abusive father after all…” Aiko nodded, “Yeah, I guess you’re right…”

“So are you going to the trip to that Demon Forest tonight?” Belle asked her brother around the dinner table. “Yeah, I guess.” Cody said. “Not like I have any other choice.” Their mother placed the steaming ramen on the table. “Eat up you two.” she said in her soft tone. “You two are going to need the strength on your trip tonight.” Their Grandpa Joe came walking down the stairs. “The Demon Forest, eh?” Grandpa said, his face pinched by the ache in his back. “There were rumors about how a fox demon lived there; more than five thousand souls were devoured over the past fifty years. Why I remember when I was around your age…” Oh no, Cody and Belle thought. Not the stories again…After dinner, Cody and Belle had their camping gear ready for the trip. As they walked out the door, their mother called out, “Be careful of those demons!” Demons, Cody muttered, they don’t even exist, what’s the point?

Everyone sat around the campfire in the camp grounds, telling scary stories about how the demon fox would tear your heart out and devour it, then devour your body, skeleton and all, leaving only the puddle of blood. Belle was hiding in her sleeping bag, Cody just yawned,“This is just retarded.” He muttered. “There are no such things as demons.” Aiko, who was sitting beside him turned around, “At least you could act like you were scared.” Cody shrugged, “I never believed in demons, they’re just myths.” Belle shuddered, “I always believed in them, those stories always spooked me!” Gary gave Cody a playful punch. “Why don’t we go to into that forest later tonight, huh?” Belle and Aiko flinched, “What’re you crazy?” They said at the same time. “What if those stories are true? What if we’re devoured whole?” Gary smirked, “I’m not afraid, neither is Cody here. Tell ya the truth, I don’t believe in demons either, I just act scared.” Cody smiled, “Yeah, c’mon, just a peek. We go in then come out sound good?” Belle and Aiko looked at each other then nodded, “Alright, but just a peek though okay?”
