Waiting To Die

Dismissal is all I get,

even as time ticks by

with me sitting in my coffin,

calmly waiting to die.

No one hears my voice

as they nail shut the lid.

Don’t they know that I’m awake?

I don’t know what I did.

My grave is dug and ready,

they’ve blessed away my sin;

all they’re waiting for

is me to jump on in.

Can’t I get some notice

before I’m six feet under ground?

Or is it too much to ask you

to simply hang around?

Lower me down and cover me

before my lifetime even ends.

Lay my grave with flowers

that the funeral-skippers send.

They’re all glad to dismiss me,

and forget as time goes by,

while I’m lying in my coffin

still waiting patiently to die.
