A/N: I know that this is short, but it's just the prologue. Don't worry--the chapters will be longer.
Salley pushed the canoe off into the water before she jumped in. She was in the middle of the woods beside a pond that soon turned into a river. She began to paddle through the still water.
All around was life: fish swimming, frogs croaking, birds chirping, and much more, but something still seemed to be missing. Where was the excitement, the adventure? Salley usually enjoyed the quickness and fast pace of life, but today, she just wanted to be alone in the quiet.
The oar made small ripples in the water and a sound that sounded strange in the strange, almost-silence.
She was moving quicker across the lake, now and began to steer her canoe toward the narrow opening that lead to the river.
Salley could feel the current begin to pull her toward the river’s mouth. She began to paddle less and think more. She thought about the reason why she had come this far. It’s not like she didn’t know where she was, but she knew that she didn’t want to return. She was a runaway, an escapee from her own home, an 11-year old girl trying to flee from the troubles of her own life.
