Dying By Degrees

Warning, power failing

I’m waning, then dying

Yet I’m already dead

Dead but still breathing

There’s no touch, no bliss

No sight, there just is

No feeling at all

Something is amiss

I’m numb, but not dead

My face is still red

Too much frustration

And heat in my head

I’m scared and pained

What had I attained?

Aimless, blind efforts

And now, I am drained

But wait, six more years

Of blood, sweat, and tears

Figuratively

How the hot pain sears

I feel dead, almost

To torture, a toast

If only this pain was

Pleasure, then I’d boast

Ah, the tasty pill

I am dead, but still

Dying by degrees

I’m very hard to kill
