Darkness entombs the heart;

The soul is bound in chains.

How can we escape this hell;

Cut our losses, and keep our gains?

What is left in this life?

What dream is there to save?

Emptiness consumes from within;

The façade begins to cave.

Desperation finds us;

The truth is now unveiled.

How can we dispute their lies;

Hiding the ugliness we hailed?

Why do we even try?

Why should we dare to feel?

The coldness settles deep inside;

There is nothing left that’s real.

Sorrow invades the mind;

We sell ourselves for free.

How can we go on living;

Blinded by what we cannot see?

Where are we going now?

Where have we been before?

Our sullen thoughts condemn our path;

Though only the end is sure.

Depression conquers all;

The spirit’s now restrained.

How can we rescue ourselves;

And still avoid this costly pain?

When will this be over?

When can we have respite?

We’re tired of running circles.

We grow weary of this fight.

Someday it has to end;

For we all one day die.

But until then, we’ll go on;

Asking how, what, when, and why.
