CHAPTER THREE
The girl wore a small black skirt with a long black apron, as if she had just been cooking something. She nodded at Todd, and said, “I’ll go get him.” Emma wondered,” Who?” Soon a man came, and Todd made some signs to him. The man took Emma’s handle, and took her in. Emma did not know that Todd loved her beauty. She would wear anything he wanted her to wear for him, at any time. The other man brought up a staircase to a woman named, Lisa. Lisa would be in charge of her beauty. The woman dressed her in a ballroom dress, and told her that they were going on a tour of the house. The woman started telling about the history of the house. Emma learned that Todd’s great-grandparents had built the house along the river. She found that it had been in Todd’s family ever since. Lisa told her that she was Todd’s wife. Lisa then said that it was time to move on. There was much more to the house than ever expected. Emma and Lisa walked down the staircase to the front door. Lisa opened it, and they stepped outside into the cool fresh air. Emma enjoyed the fresh air, as Lisa told about the original house that had been burned down, by a man that was mad at their family. Lisa said that the man wanted their land. This is what the man did.
That day was a cooking day for Sal. She was baking some cookies for her husband, who was out in the fields planting some corn. It was the beginning of spring, so everything was beautiful. The trees were growing new leaves, and the flowers were blossoming. Sal was putting the cookies in the oven when she heard a knock on the door. Sal thought it was her husband returning from the fields, but the knock was from the front door. Sal went to the door and found a man around the age of thirty there. Just when she was going to invite him in he said, “Give me all your land for free!” Sal was tough, but she was stunned. No one had ever asked for her land before. They usually asked her husband this question, never her! She told the man, “ You will have to talk to my husband about this, but he is not available during the planting season. We have a big plot of land. It stretches everywhere. He is never here during the middle of the day. Let alone for lunch. He brings that with him. He could be anywhere by now.” The man replied coldly, “ I don’t care who gives me the land, but I want it now. So give it to me now, or else.” Sal said, “I can’t just give it to you for free, I could just sell it to you, but not all the land, maybe some.” “Just give it to me!” “I already told you! NO!” “You’ll see! I’ll get that land!” The man then walked to his car, and drove off. Sal went back to work baking cookies and cakes. That night, while they were eating supper, Sal’s husband, Anthony asked, “Are you cooking anything?” Sal replied, “No, I’m finished.” “ The house is on fire! RUN!”
Emma thought that was a tragic thing that happened to Todd’s family. For once she actually felt sorry for him. Let’s go inside and talk some more. Emma learned that the door was the original door; it came all the way from France.
