Let the stars paint the roads and
Illuminate our paths unknown.
Dust-tipped tongues will taste the
Pavement if they don’t.
(But what’s a few more broken teeth?)

Burn the binding, scorch the scribbles and
Set fire to the ashes just for good measure.
Walk on top of snow before
Preparing to trample through the mud,
Carve away at granite using
Nothing but stained glass shards.

What’s a few paper cuts
Compared to these cardiac lacerations?
What’s a few scrapes and bruises
Next to these shattered limbs?

What’s an extra night to an extra lifetime?

What’s a clown to a cat,
A bark to the bitten,
A shark to the sea?
