The Princess and the Mermaid

Once upon a time there was a beautiful and smart princess named Marie. Marie was in love with a merman and the merman was in love with her.

Each night the merman sang her to bed outside her bedroom window, which was close to the sea. When Princess Marie fell asleep the merman swam off to Pacifica.

But trouble soon came closing in upon the young strange couple. A young man had fallen in love with Princess Marie. The young man found out about the relationship with the merman and Princess Marie that he became jealous. He asked the King his daughter’s hand in marriage, and the king accepted it.

When Marie heard the news, she told the merman while she was crying her eyes out. The merman said that he would do something about it sang Marie to sleep and swam off to Pacifica.

When he got to Pacifica, he told his father, the King, that he was in love with the beautiful and smart princess, and that he wanted to marry her. The king said to his son, “I thought you were going to help me take care of your younger brothers and sisters.” The merman said, “Things have changed father for I’m in love with the Princess by the sea.” “Well,” the king said, “If you love her then I will turn you into a human. Good luck, my son.” He turned the merman into a man

The next day the merman, now a young handsome man, asked the king his daughter’s hand in marriage. The young man said, “I am your daughter’s true love for I visit her at night and I sang her to bed. Please break off the engagement and let your daughter marry me.”

The king said, “Well, if you are my daughter’s true love, then I’ll break the wedding off and you can marry her.”

He brought his daughter in. Since Marie is so wise; she recognized the merman at once. The king broke off the engagement with the young man. Princess Marie and the merman got married.

A year later, the king gave up his crown and he gave his crown to his daughter and son-in-law. Queen Marie and King Lyric (Marie named him Lyric before they got married before they got married his name was Mewerrriah) ruled peacefully and became great allies with Pacifica. They lived happily ever after.

What became of the young man? He and his broken heart ran away and became a priest.
