AN: This is just a very very short one shot. I wanted to get my mind off 'Love Doesn't Exist In the Mafia'. I've hit writer's block with that one. It's almost done though. I've written ideas for it, but just not a solid chapter I guess. Anyways, this one shot isn't amazing, but it'll have to do. The first line was kind of stuck in my head for awhile so I decided to write to get rid of it. Please review. x3
"Did you have to bring him?"her former best friend whined.
"Yes, Derek, I did. I'm engaged to him!"
"Well, sorry love. I'm not jumping for joy at the fact you're getting married in a year. You're only nineteen. You should still be scoping out the market. He only wants you as a trophey wife, even you have to know this. He wants sex, a wife to pamper, a wife who won't bother him when he gets more sex on the side, and a beauty to show off."
"No, no he doesn't."
"Lizabeth."he whispered, skipping the 'E' on her name as he always did.
She pushed him away from her. "Don't even! You know what I wanted and you pulled it away from me as soon as I confessed."
----
In High School, the two were complete opposites. She was the scene straightedge girl, while he was the popular football drunk every weekend boy, but isn't that how it always is? They were best friends, though, and that's all that mattered to them. They were always there for each other. Derek fought off his football friends when they made moves on his pretty friend. She scolded her straightedge boy friends when they growled rude remarks at Derek to iniate fights. They never worked though. The two worked too hard for their friendship and they weren't going to throw it all away because of other friends.
"Lizabeth-love,"he said happily, using her nickname. He grabbed her wrists and pulled her into a bone crushing hug. "I'm having a party tonight. You're coming, right?"
"Of course I am. I wouldn't miss it for the world," She grinned at him and he laughed. He couldn't keep a straightface around her. She had gorgeous hazel eyes and teased brown/black choppy hair. She was short at 5'1". Her clothes consisted of tight pants, long shirts, footless leggings, dresses, skirts, and flats. She reminded him of a fragile doll that would break at any human contact. "I'm going to bring Tyler though."
"Is that your new boyfriend?"he seethed. Elizabeth pursed her lips and shrugged gently. He was adorable. His brown eyes always seemed to be smiling. His black hair was buzzed short and his position as quarterback made him buff. He was at a taller height at 6'3". He wore the usual jeans, a shirt, vans slip ons, and sometimes the occasional sweatshirt if it got that cold. "Well, Missy is going to be there, too."
"Good, I wanted to meet her."she whispered.
Six months later the two sat beside each other at Graduation. That's of course how they met in Elementary school, their last names forced them to sit next to each other from elementary school all the way to the last day of high school. They held hands loosely. They weren't dated, they never had, and they both knew they never would. She was currently dating his friend, Dirk, who was also a star football player as the wide receiver. He sat a couple rows up. He was her type of boy. Tall, cute, small mohawk. That wasn't who she wanted though and that much was obvious at times. "Time to roll."said Derek in his trademark rough deep voice.
He pulled her up and they followed their line up to the stage where diplomias were being handed out. In the small town everyone knew Derek and Elizabeth and their air-tight friendship. "Derek and Elizabeth Smith."voiced the principal with a smile gracing his face.
It wasn't odd for their names to be said together, they were far used to it. Smith was a common last name. "You want some last words of encouragement, Smiths?"voiced the principal.
"Yes, sir."mocked Derek.
"Date each other before you two forget this friendship."
Derek laughed and pulled Elizabeth closer to him. He slid an arm around her waist and grinned. "Best friends is forever."said Elizabeth.
The two walked away as clapping surrounded them from their class. Even Dirk clapped with the smallest smile.
"Derek, I love you and you know that! I've wanted to date you since freshman year of high school."
"Lizabeth, it'll just ruin our friendship."
"No, no it won't! This is."
With that, Elizabeth turned and walked away from Derek for the first time in her life.
----
"Lizabeth, I've loved you since forever. Graduation was the best day of my life. When you confessed you loved me as more than a friend, but I was too scared to take you. Now, you're engaged and I've realized how obsessed I truly am. I follow you in tabloids that you appear in from being engaged to that man. You always were attracted to football players."
"It doesn't matter now. I love him."
"I love you."he whispered.
She stomped a foot in the ground and stood facing him with hands on her hips. "I can't do this right now. If I break off my engagement with him, and it doesn't work between us, I'll be ruining my real love for him."she whispered softly.
"It doesn't matter. If you're willing to break it off with him, then, you aren't supposed to be with him."
One month later, the two faced each other once more. He caught her chin in his hand and leaned down as she stood up on her tippy toes. The two kissed for the first time and time seemed to almost stop. Time stops for true love. "I love you, Derek."she whispered.
"I love you more, Lizabeth-love."he growled, before kissing her once more.
