The Checklist
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between an infatuation and true love.
That’s why I’ve got this checklist to tell me what I’m feeling.
I need to find out what this fluttery, swooping, heart-stopping feeling in my stomach is.
I’ve got to see what this breathless, jittery jumping that I’ve been feeling lately is all about.
I’m pretty sure it’s love, but just in case there’s this.
Let’s see:
Every time I notice you I get all shy.
Is that under love or infatuation?
Oh dear, it could be both.
There must be something else that I can use to figure this out.
It hurts when I see you talking to another girl, and paying more attention to her than you do to me.
It’s jealousy, I know, but I can’t call it that because “Jealousy” is under infatuation.
You’re the only one I see, and I want it to be so that I’m the only one you see.
I want to have you all to myself.
Oh no. Another one under “Infatuation.”
But it’s just because I love you, that’s all.
Good! Here’s one that proves that I really do love you:
I want you to be happy.
I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you, but I would do everything to cheer you up if you’re ever down.
Going down the list...
I’m putting a check next to every symptom of “Love” or “Infatuation.”
All the way to the bottom, where I begin to add it up.
2 “Infatuation,” 1 “Love,”
So on, so forth…
Until I have the final result, with “Infatuation” outscoring “Love.”
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear…
Guess you’re not the one after all.
I could’ve gone wrong, it would’ve been terrible.
Good thing I’ve got this checklist.
