Poem I wrote for a friend.

same ol' love story.

turn up the radio and listen to the song playing
and you'll sing along to the tune of a lovesick fool.
pick up a story and read a few chapters
and you'll read a novel about starcrossed lovers.
insert that rented romance video into the VCR
and watch two very opposite people come together.

it's the same ol' love song and the same ol' story
it's the same ol' movie gone by on film strips
but they're all fools in love, both young and old alike
all fools that sing the same tune and dance the same beat
all lovers whose heart beats for another
all lovesick fools that reenact the same scenes.

but honey we don't need to be like everybody else.
we don't need to sing the same ol' love songs
or reenact the same ol' scenes.
we can sing along to a melancholy beat
or play the role of hearts gone awry
but it don't matter 'cause we're in love

our hearts can bleed and break and shatter
but it don't matter 'cause we only need one heart to love
and oh they can sing a song of how we hate each other
but that don't mean we'll ever let go of each other's hand.
'cause we don't have to be like the others
just to say we're in love.

we don't need to sing songs of lovesick fools
we don't need to play the role of knight and princess in fairy tales.
we don't need to act out the same ol' scenes in romance movies
'cause we don't have to be like everybody else.
'cause we got each other
and 'cause I love you.
