My Promise



Every single promise I make,

Every last promise I’ll keep,

For my freedom I will never forsake,

Soon I will triumph, soon you will weep.

My wings may be tattered and broken,

But my determination is sure and strong,

My strength may be failing with each word spoken,

But through terror and fear, I carry on.

Breaking away, I will soon be free,

I’ll fly away, and you will be shown,

You can never contain me,

My life is not yours, my life is my own.

My broken wings unfurl and spread,

My heart cries out in sheer delight,

For now I can see, my freedom ahead,

At the end of this dark tunnel, I can see the light.

From these tethers of yours I will break,

From your control I know I’ll escape,

Leaving fear and destruction in my wake,

My future is mine and mine alone to shape.
