driving over the bridge

on my way out of the town

that i vowed not to let down

when it's all said and done

no one wanted to know

whose poor hearts

were going to break

what mistakes we would make

so put your head down and run

i thought she would beg me not to go

instead she turned and led me to the door

and said, "don't change."

i remember the night

when the storm cut out the lights

the first time you stayed the night

and the morning came too soon

now it's all going to change

things get washed out with the rain

leaving nothing quite the same

except a letter and a tune

i said, "this is never going to stick."

she led me to the curb and said

"you won't feel a thing.”
