FORGOTTEN BUT NOT GONE
By Marina Richardson
I’m standing here, alive and well,
Yet no one seems to know.
I’m trapped in anonymity,
There’s nowhere else to go.
Beside myself with loneliness,
I’m fighting down the tears.
But even if I cried aloud
I’m sure no one would hear.
Voices that I recognize
Repeat inside my mind.
I look around for someone close,
But memory’s all I find.
Perhaps I am a fragile ghost
Too vague to leave the earth,
Fated to wander a lonely plane
In search of her own worth.
I feel forgotten, all alone,
Although my heart beats true.
But how can one forget someone--
Someone they never knew?
So here I am--the living ghost,
Singing her lonely song.
Unknown by many, beloved by few,
Forgotten, but not gone.
